Barricade situation near Elkton ends peacefully; no charges warranted

ELKTON — A non-violent barricade situation at an apartment complex near Elkton on Friday afternoon ended peacefully when the resident – who initially did not respond to police efforts to communicate with him – exited his residence and agreed to get mental health treatment, according to the Cecil County Sheriff’s Office.

Marked by numerous on-scene law enforcement officers, the barricade situation started at approximately 3 p.m. Friday in the West Creek Village community off Fletchwood Road, northeast of Elkton, after a “third-party caller” contacted 911 because that person was concerned about the resident’s welfare, reported CCSO Capt. Michael Holmes. Holmes declined to specify the specific concerns due to the sensitive mental health circumstances.
