Street safety advocates convince Ann Arbor on $500K for quicker improvements

ANN ARBOR, MI — Pedestrian and bicycle safety advocates reiterated calls for Ann Arbor to make streets safer during another demonstration outside city hall Monday night.

This time they were joined by three City Council members: Dharma Akmon, Erica Briggs and Jenn Cornell, who’ve been dubbed council’s “ABC Caucus” and responded by sponsoring a city budget amendment at the May 19 meeting.

“It’s so important that you’re all here,” Briggs, D-5th Ward, told the crowd ahead of the meeting, lamenting it’s even necessary to keep rallying around the cause.

But more people keep getting injured and killed on city streets and there’s more work to do, she acknowledged, saying streets aren’t just spaces for cars…
