Singer Chris Brown Released on Bail After London Nightclub Attack Arrest

Grammy-winning artist Chris Brown has been released on $6.7 million bail following his arrest in connection with an alleged assault at a London nightclub. A judge granted bail despite a previous order to hold Brown in custody until his next court appearance.

This new decision allows Brown to proceed with his upcoming world tour, which includes dates in Amsterdam and Germany in early June. The tour had been in question due to the legal proceedings.

Brown’s release is contingent on the payment of the substantial bail amount, ensuring his return to court. Judge Tony Baumgartner stated that Brown could continue his tour, including planned U.K. performances, provided the bail is met.

A friend of Brown’s, musician Omololu Akinlolu, known professionally as “Hoody Baby,” was also charged in the incident. Neither Brown nor Akinlolu have entered pleas. Both are expected back in court on June 20th.

The arrest stems from an alleged February 2023 attack at the Tape nightclub in London’s Mayfair district. Brown faces charges of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

He was initially held in custody after a prosecutor described the alleged crime as “extremely serious,” arguing against Brown’s lawyer’s claim that he posed no flight risk. The case has been moved from Manchester Magistrates’ Court to Southwark Crown Court in London.
