Murfreesboro and Rutherford County Rocked by Storm Damage, Community Begins Recovery Efforts

Rutherford County, particularly the Murfreesboro community, faces a daunting cleanup after severe storms yesterday wreaked havoc on homes and infrastructure. According to WSMV, large trees fell, and houses were damaged along Blackman Road near West Calgary Road and Towbridge Drive. Resident Bob Crisp described his harrowing experience as he sought refuge in a closet when a limb crashed onto his home, “The next thing I know, I couldn’t see past the front porch posts,” Crisp said.

Meanwhile, the storm might not spare vehicles, another brutal reminder of nature’s indifferent force. A woman recounted to FOX 17 News her terror as the wind lifted her car, moments before a tree fell where the vehicle had been. Britney Smotherman, reacting to her dogs’ frantic barking, fortunately took shelter just in time as the tempest raged outside her home.

First responders in Middle Tennessee have been actively responding to emergency calls precipitated by the storms. The Tennessee Department of Transportation’s Erin Zeigler highlighted the efforts to clear a tree that impacted a vehicle on state route 48 in Hickman County, where the driver escaped with minor injuries.
