Cleanup of Chevron well “blowout” could take until Spring 2030, some evacuees still not home

GALETON, Colo. — More than six weeks after an uncontrolled blowout at a Chevron-operated oil and gas well near Galeton, only five of the 14 families who evacuated have returned home.

The blowout at the Bishop Well occurred on April 6 and resulted in oil and water spewing into the air for several days.

The Energy and Carbon Management Commission (ECMC), the state agency overseeing the response, said the cause of the incident has not yet been determined. The cleanup is estimated to be complete by spring of 2030…
