Tsukuneya closing down on Oahu after 2 decades in business

HONOLULU (Island News) — Tsukuneya across from UH Manoa on University Avenue is serving up its final dish.

The restaurant closing after two decades of serving hungry visitors and also providing a lifetime of memories. It has been extremely rewarding for employees.

Emy Sakuma with the Tsukuneya ownership group told Island News, “The parents say, ‘Oh my kids don’t eat much, but they come here, they love the food items and eat so much.’ I love that story.”

Janis Najita shared, “It’s so sad. I was part of the opening crew, it brings a lot of memories to be here. I actually was off the island the past 15 years and recently returned home. I’m glad I get to eat here one last time. I think it’s one of the best Japanese restaurants here on the island.”…
