Remembering the true meaning of Memorial Day at Chalmette National Cemetery

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – Just off West St. Bernard Highway, nestled beside the historic Chalmette Battlefield, lies a solemn place of remembrance. Rows and rows of headstones, each one a silent testament to service and sacrifice.

Among them is grave No. 12,624, the final resting place of United States Colored Troops veteran Russell Everett.
