GREENSBORO, N.C. — A Guilford County judge heard hours of testimony Thursday in the case of Benjamin Cole, who was convicted in 1999 of killing a man during a robbery.
Now, more than two decades later, Cole’s legal team is pushing to reopen the case based on two key pieces of evidence. Testimony included people who were inside the apartment during the shooting, as well as one of Cole’s former defense attorneys.
One of the key developments involves a witness who helped convict Cole. That witness now said she misidentified him. She said the men she heard that night had Southern accents, not a Jamaican one.
