MNPD could be forced to pull officers from neighborhoods to cover Broadway patrols

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Metro Nashville Police Chief John Drake said crime is down double digits in most categories so far this year, but major changes could impact how officers are able to protect the Nashville community.

The department could have to pull officers out of neighborhoods to watch crowds along Lower Broadway and in the Gulch if the department doesn’t get more funding in the current budget process, Drake said.

Drake told Metro Council members about the Entertainment District Unit funding request during a Wednesday night budget hearing. MNPD asked for $4.2 million dollars to have permanent officers downtown, but Mayor Freddie O’Connell did not include it in his budget proposal…
