Police release video of electric bicycle chase in The Villages

Police have released a video showing the chase of an electric bicycle through The Villages.

Charles Richard Duncan, 49, who lives at 804 Aloha Way, was riding the electric bicycle shortly before 9 p.m. May 8 on Shay Boulevard when an officer noticed the bicycle did not have lights required for riding at night, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department.

The officer activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop, but Duncan “looked back” at the patrol car and began to pedal away. When the electric bicycle turned right on Jason Drive, the officer began to blow his siren. Instead of stopping, Duncan made a right on Devon Drive. He eventually headed back for Shay Boulevard and crossed Griffin Avenue. He cut through local businesses to evade the pursuing officer. His bicycle raced through a Bank of America parking lot and then jumped the curb to enter a medical plaza.

A tire of the electric bicycle malfunctioned and Duncan ditched the bike. He dropped to his knees to surrender to law enforcement. He was in possession of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia…
