Amid King Charles III’s ongoing cancer treatment, a member of the royal family marked a milestone in healthcare with the opening of a new transplant center. On Friday, May 23rd, the Duchess of Gloucester officially opened the Edmonds Transplant Centre at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.
The Duchess, wife of the King’s cousin, Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester, cut the ribbon at the new facility. The center will house all services needed for transplant patients, solidifying the Birmingham hospital’s standing as the most active transplant center in Europe.
It performs heart, lung, liver, and kidney transplants, among others. Buckingham Palace stated the new center will allow the hospital “to continue to provide life-changing care.”
This positive development comes as King Charles continues his scheduled cancer treatments. Since his diagnosis was announced in February, the 76-year-old monarch has been balancing treatment with his royal duties, supported by other members of the royal family.
