After over two years of construction, Otay Mesa celebrates the reopening of a major intersection that promises to relieve traffic congestion, improve safety, and tackle flooding issues. Today, the City of San Diego announced the completion of a significant road improvement project at the juncture of La Media and Airway roads, which are critical arteries that facilitate the movement of goods across the U.S.-Mexico border.
“Vehicles are now moving through this once-congested area quickly thanks to the expanded lanes, giving both local businesses and cross-border transporters more efficient access their destinations,” Mayor Todd Gloria stated in a report by the City of San Diego. The revamp, which originated in March 2023 and cost $60.6 million, is poised to amp up economic growth in the coming years.
Improvements to La Media Road include an elevation of the problematic intersection and the addition of drainage structures to prevent habitual flooding.
