Sheriff investigating group home where workers allegedly assaulted autistic man

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office has arrested two men who are accused of abusing a 29-year-old severely autistic man who was living at a privately-run group home in unincorporated East Bexar County near Converse.

Tony Israel, 45, was arrested late Thursday on charges of assault against a disabled individual and injury to a disabled individual due to criminal negligence.

At the time of his arrest, Israel was employed as a part-time sheriff’s deputy. He was immediately fired, said Sheriff Javier Salazar at a Saturday news conference…
