No charges filed in fatal Eugene crash that killed beloved Eugene woman

EUGENE, Ore. — No charges have been filed in the April 23 crash that killed a beloved Eugene woman, but court documents now reveal the driver was allegedly impaired.

According to a search warrant affidavit, Scott Stolarezyk had a 0.23 blood-alcohol percentage nearly an hour after his Toyota RAV4 struck and killed Sharon Shuman who was out for a morning walk on the Amazon bark path. Stolarezyk told police he did not remember the crash, but that he has suffered from a coughing fit in the past that made him pass out and he believed that is what happened again, the affidavit said. Court records show that he said he suffered health issues from a previous case of COVID. Stolarezyk claimed he had one alcoholic apple cider at 10 p.m. and one at 2:30 a.m. when he woke up because of insomnia, according to court documents. The crash happened at 9:45 a.m…
