Fire at waste transfer station continues to smolder as officials work on extinguishment plan

DALLAM, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — Texline Volunteer Fire & EMS announced they are continuing efforts to extinguish a fire at the waste transfer station that has been producing smoke and concern throughout the community.

According to officials, the fire remains active beneath the collapsed structure, where burning material is shielded by debris. The building’s collapse created conditions that make firefighting efforts extremely difficult, as water applied to the area runs off rather than reaching the burning material below.

Texline officials said their initial response efforts were hampered by limited access, unstable conditions, and a lack of necessary resources such as heavy equipment and a sufficient water supply. Fire crews applied thousands of gallons of water to accessible areas, which slowed the fire’s spread but did not extinguish it…
