Man arrested after hitting Randolph County patrol vehicle head on, sheriff’s office says

RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — A man has been charged after allegedly ramming a patrol car in Randolph County.

According to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, on Saturday, they attempted to make a traffic stop on I-73/74 in Asheboro. The person they were attempting to stop accelerated, cutting off another car and nearly crashing.

The suspect, identified as Rolando Mareno, 30, then drove north. On Main Street in Archdale, Mareno made an “abrupt” U-turn and drove directly into the pursuing patrol vehicle, colliding with it head-on. He attempted to get out of the car through the passenger side door but it would not open…
