Last week, Alamance County Manager Heidi York presented recommendations for the county’s budget for Fiscal Year 25-26.
Among the biggest aspects of the proposed budget are cuts to the Alamance-Burlington School System. The school district requested over $59 million in funding from the county, but the current proposal would have just $46,795,651 allocated to ABSS. Last year, ABSS had an adopted budget of just over $58 million.
The county said during its presentation that funding is decreasing because $10 million is being transferred from the Current Expense Fund to the school system’s Capital Projects Fund, which supports “the extensive need for large scale renovation and repairs in school buildings.”…
