Historic Cedar Rapids pharmacy to be revitalized into storefront

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Save CR Heritage, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving historic properties, is set to purchase the historic Zastera Pharmacy building, which has been underutilized since the 2008 flood.

The building, constructed in 1921, was operated by pharmacist Charles Zastera, the son of Czech immigrants, until his retirement in 1964. Over the years, it has housed various businesses, including a grocery store.

Save CR Heritage plans to transform the brick building into a store for vintage windows, doors, hardwood flooring, and other architectural salvage. The space will also feature a space for artwork, pop-up shops, and other events…
