Experts share tips to keep pets safe in extreme heat

(FOX40.COM) — It’s not summer yet, but temperatures will rise to triple-digits on Friday and Saturday. As heat sets in, pet owners must take steps to keep their four-legged friends cool and hydrated.

“If it’s not safe for you, it’s not safe for your pet,” said Sheri Madsen, RedRover’s Director of Public Relations and Partnerships. “Try to keep your pet indoors. If you need to take them out for walks, make sure that you are taking them early in the morning or later in the evening once the sun’s gone down.”

Triple-digit heat can quickly become dangerous for pets. Dog owner Joe Sowa tells FOX40 that he plans carefully when temperatures spike, ensuring his dog, Lucky, stays safe.

“When it eclipses 100, we get him inside,” Sowa said. “We’re trying to work around the warm weather schedule as much as possible.”…
