City of Amarillo enters lease agreement for daytime facility

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – The Amarillo City Council has approved a resolution to enter into a lease agreement with the Tyler Street Resource Center, that was approved in a 5-0 vote to authorize the city manager to enter into a lease agreement with the Tyler Street Resource Center, also known as the Guyon Saunders Resource Center for the lease of a daytime facility for the homeless population.

“The plan is that the Guyon Saunders Resource Center will build the new day center and then once it’s built, community development and the city will lease the building for 10 years, after 10 years, our part is paid and it will be gifted back to the city. The entire facility will be given to the city, then it will be a 10 million dollar plus asset for the city, we will then do the same thing we are doing with the night shelter where we will lease to Transformation Park to perform the programs on top of that,” said Jason Riddlespurger, City of Amarillo director of Community Development.

Mayor Cole Stanley added this helps tackle this homeless problem in the city.

“This builds a $10 million dollar facility that we can rent roughly 7,000 square feet out of, that 7,000 square feet will cost us around $400,000 a year. It’s annualized in Community Development’s budget, that is in our current tax rate right now and we can afford it and it will help bring out the changes we need to see in that community,” said Stanley…
