Bakersfield ranks high for move-outs, but population continues to grow steadily

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) – People are either moving into Bakersfield or moving out of Bakersfield. The city is either evolving or stagnating; depends on who you ask.

The latest volley of population data of note is from PODS, the nation’s largest moving and storage company. According to the data, Bakersfield was for the second straight year among the nation’s top 20 move-away cities – number 19, to be specific.

The percentage of local population leaving for new horizons trails only L.A. the San Francisco Bay Area, and South Florida, the top three. That is, of course, not the same thing as net population growth or decline…
