First Alert: Watching rain and storm chances to end the week

A large weather system high up in the atmosphere will influence our weather for the rest of this week, keeping things unsettled across the region.

Isolated Shower/Storm Thursday

Expect a mostly cloudy day Thursday, which will help keep temperatures close to normal for late May. In the afternoon, scattered showers and storms could pop-up, especially near the Blue Ridge. If you’re out and about, it wouldn’t hurt to keep an umbrella handy.

Widespread Rain and Storms Friday

A stronger cold front will arrive on Friday, bringing a better chance for more widespread showers and thunderstorms, especially during the afternoon and evening. Some storms could bring downpours, which might cause minor flooding in low-lying or poorly drained areas. Temperatures will be a bit cooler thanks to the rain and cloud cover.
