Suicide and Crisis Lifeline responders see an increase in calls from Nebraskans

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – The 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is already seeing a 14 percent increase in calls from last year, according to the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.

But—what’s causing this spike in crises—or do the numbers account for something else entirely?

Lincoln Police say, since May of 2024, they have received nearly 15,000 mental health-related phone calls. Public Information Officer, Erika Thomas, says they had an uptick in calls that were transferred to the 988 suicide and crisis lifeline…
