A 22-year-old man in Salem, New Hampshire, learned the hard way that you can run, but you can’t hide, especially not when the police have an aerial view of your every move. The driver, speeding at a staggering 140 mph (225 km/h) in a 2024 Chevrolet Corvette C8, might’ve thought he was getting away, but the local authorities had something more effective than a high-speed chase: a fixed-wing aircraft.
The New Hampshire State Police ran a special traffic enforcement initiative on Memorial Day, flying their aircraft over Interstate 93 northbound, just over the border from Massachusetts. Throughout the morning, police observed 111 motor vehicle violations, including speeding, cell phone use, reckless driving, and ‘Move Over’ violations. However, it was a white Corvette that really caught their eye.
At 7:45 a.m., a trooper spotted the Chevy driving at 110 mph (177 km/h). Police on the ground attempted to stop the driver, but he decided to speed up and flee, “recklessly” passing traffic. But, unbeknownst to the driver, he was being tracked by the police aircraft, and was later spotted hitting approximately 140 mph (225 km/h). The plane followed him off the interstate and onto side roads in Windham, where police on the ground were directed to his location…
