AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – Project Refresh, a local non-profit with the goal of helping the homeless, offered free showers, hygiene products, food and health screenings on Friday.
The City of Augusta steps in to offer free rides to the event location at May Park from different centers throughout the area. It’s all in an effort to help those who need it the most.
“How many of you guys went without showers during the hurricane? Imagine that for a week. That’s right. But think about it for six months. Think about it for seven or eight months without having access to hygiene, without having any access to clothes or things that you need just for basic survival. Right. So that’s why we started a Project Refresh was the intent of bringing showers to people who otherwise have no access,” said Brittany Hutto, executive director of Project Refresh. “So I’ve had people come out of the shower coming out saying, I feel like Superman. I feel like a new person. I had one lady tell me that she could feel the stress washing off of her, like the dirty water going down the drain while she was in there.”…
