South Carolina couple accused of $20K fraud using Cash App

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. — A South Carolina couple in Moncks Corner could face several years in prison after they were arrested on charges related to theft of thousands of dollars from a vulnerable adult.

Investigators with the Vulnerable Adults and Medicaid Provider Fraud (VAMPF) Unit in the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office allege that 42-year-old Larry Darnell Broadnax Jr., who was acting as the victim’s power of attorney, misappropriated more than $10,000 from the victim’s bank account through Cash App transfers and checks for personal use. The other suspect, 44-year-old Charmaine D. Broadnax, was also accused of linking her Cash App account to the victim’s bank account and withdrawing $10,000 for her own use.

Both face charges of exploitation of a vulnerable adult, which carries a penalty of up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000. Larry Darnell Broadnax also faces charges of breach of trust with fraudulent intent at a value of $10,000 or more, which carries a penalty up to 10 years in prison…
