Update: Damaging winds and penny-sized hail predicted with thunderstorms to hit Lee and Russell counties Friday

An updated severe thunderstorm warning was released by the National Weather Service on Friday at 2:34 p.m. in effect until 3 p.m. for Lee and Russell counties.

The storms are packing wind gusts of up to 60 mph and penny-sized hail (0.75 inches).

“At 2:33 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located near Uchee, or 10 miles northeast of Hurtsboro, moving east at 40 mph,” states the weather service. “Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.”…
