CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — To celebrate National Caribbean American Heritage Month, the Healthy Lifestyle Network is hosting the Charleston Carifest Caribbean Carnival in June, recognizing Antigua & Barbuda as its featured country.
Scheduled for Friday, June 13 and Saturday, June 14, the Carifest Carnival will provide the opportunity to celebrate shared heritage, reaffirm the contributions that Caribbean Americans make to the cultural tapestry of the United States, and serve as a testament to the resilience, creativity, and vibrancy of the community, organizers said.
Friday’s events include the Carifest Symposium and Opening Reception sponsored by the International African American Museum, featuring panelists Patricia Tonge Edigin, Isabelle Britto, and the Hon. E.P. Chet Greene, moderated by South Carolina State University professor Dr. Alison McLetchie. Edigin is a philanthropist and president of the Atlanta Caribbean Carnvial and Britto works as an Associate Curator at the IAAM with a focus on global Black histories, visual culture, and Caribbean emancipation narratives.
