GRAND RAPIDS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Lines started forming before noon Friday for the first show of the 2025 Fifth Third Bank Summer Concerts at Meijer Gardens, now celebrating its 30th year.
John Zysk of Allendale was the first to arrive at Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park amphitheater just outside Grand Rapids. He claimed his favorite spot more than six hours before indie band The Head and The Heart took the stage.
“I like to get as close to the gate as possible so I can be as close to the band as possible,” he said. “When you’re that close to these artists, it’s hard to describe.”

Zysk settled into a lawn chair with a book and a cooler full of snacks, ready for the long wait. For him and the others who eventually joined the line, the experience is about more than just the music…
