Jersey City banned rent software used to jack up prices. A statewide ban is vetoed in Colorado.

Earlier this month, Jersey City officials voted to ban landlords from using software like RealPage to set rental costs amid growing concerns of price fixing.

That came on the heels of a lawsuit against RealPage and 10 landlords filed by New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin, who accused them of using pricing software that forced tens of thousands of New Jerseyans to overpay for rent.

But in Colorado, Democratic Gov. Jared Polis on Thursday vetoed a bill that would have made his state the first in the country to ban landlords from using such rent-setting algorithms, which many advocates have blamed for driving up housing costs across the country…
