HUMBOLDT, Tenn. — While school cafeterias may be closed for the summer, several organizations are making sure no child in West Tennessee goes hungry.
School is out, and the YMCA is hard at work. Staff are stationed all across West Tennessee, serving up free meal packs to ensure children have access to healthy meals and snacks this summer.
“We have meals provided for children that are 0 to 18 years old for the summer all the way up to the first week in August. This package serves seven meals for each day, so that’s a whole week package,” said Dominiqua Hibbler, production associate for the YMCA.
Each 7-day meal pack will consist of seven breakfasts and seven lunches. All filled with shelf-stable milk, meat or meat alternates, fruit, vegetables and grains.
“Prices are very high, and it can help the kids, and we all know that kids eat us out of a house and home. So, what it does is it provides us good nutritious meals not, you know, just regular snacks. It actually is nutritious,” said Hibbler.
The YMCA meal program is free for all children under 18 regardless of income. But this isn’t the only free summer meal program happening in West Tennessee…
