AKRON — Approximately 174 years ago, world-renowned civil rights and abolitionist Sojourner Truth spoke at the Ohio Women’s Conference in Summit County.
The Ohio Women’s Conference of 1851 in Akron set the stage for Isabella Baumfree, better known as Sojourner Truth, who was born into slavery but eventually escaped, and her speech “Ain’t I a Woman.”
