Del Taco, Jack in The Box Plans to Expand to Dayton Region

Two popular fast-food chains, Del Taco and Jack in the Box, are planning to expand into the Dayton region.

Del Taco, a Mexican-inspired chain founded in Yermo, California, in 1964, has identified at least 10 potential locations in the Dayton area. Its sister company, Jack in the Box—a burger chain known for its tacos—has targeted at least 15 sites in the region, according to Dustin Thompson, director of franchise marketing and development.

Choosing The Right Market

Several years ago, both brands completed a detailed market analysis. This study focused on demographic and lifestyle factors that predict high customer interest. Typically, ideal markets have about 10,000 daytime workers, 25,000 cars passing daily, and a population of at least 25,000 people within a two-mile radius. Locations near other fast-food competitors also rank high.

Thompson said, “Dayton’s economy is growing, and there are many opportunities here. Ohio as a whole is a great market for fast food, and Dayton fits that trend.”…
