Due to – and continuing – a catastrophic year for racing in the region, the California Thoroughbred Breeders Association’s Northern California Yearling Sale has been canceled for 2025, Daily Racing Form reports.
A fixture of the Northern California calendar since 2004, the auction is a latest casualty in a region that has over the past year seen anchor track Golden Gate Fields shutter and the fair circuit be denied dates for 2025 after an attempt to pick up the slack of Golden Gate’s dates was met with mixed results.
“It’s time to look at other options,” CTBA president Doug Burge told the Daily Racing Form. “There’s no racing. There’s no stabling. It’s hard to financially justify a sale without racing or training.”…
