Good Shepherd Center holds groundbreaking for new SECU The Sparrow facility

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – The Good Shepherd Center is holding a groundbreaking ceremony for the SECU The Sparrow facility, which will provide housing for the chronically homeless in Wilmington.

Supporters gathered at the site, which was partially funded through the NC Housing Finance Agency‘s Supportive Housing American Rescue Plan (SHARP), a program that allocated $2.91 million to the development. The facility is expected to house at least 32 people.

“Many people know Good Shepherd Center for our emergency shelter and soup kitchen services, but just as important are our efforts to end the homelessness of some of our most challenged neighbors—people who have been homeless for long periods due to their significant disabilities”, said Katrina Knight, Executive Director. “Building on the success of our SECU Lakeside Reserve community, we will provide housing combined with on-site supports to an additional 32 chronically homeless individuals with special needs. We are beyond grateful to the NC Housing Finance Agency, City of Wilmington, and SECU Foundation, as well as the many individual donors who have invested in this effort to address homelessness with a proven housing solution.”…
