SAN DIEGO — A pedestrian bridge connecting two San Diego neighborhoods has been shrouded in darkness for months, leaving residents fearful of crossing at night and questioning the city’s response to their safety concerns.
The Vermont Street Pedestrian Bridge, which links University Heights and Hillcrest, has had non-functioning lights since August 2024, according to community leaders. The outage has forced residents to avoid walking across the bridge after dark, disrupting their access to shopping and dining in the commercial district.
