Man sentenced to federal prison for weapons violation

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A 45-year-old Charleston man was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for a weapons violation.

Claude Michael Barrs pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of South Carolina.

Barrs was stopped by a Berkeley County Sheriff’s deputy on September 29, 2023, after they observed him driving erratically, officials said. During that stop, deputies say Barrs appeared “extremely nervous” and admitted that his license was suspended…
