‘If the council won’t give it to me, I’m begging y’all.’ Nashville residents weigh in on property tax rate change

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – The Metro Council held one of their most substantial meetings of the year Tuesday night, giving residents the chance to share their opinions on the proposed 2026 budget and updated property tax rate.

Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell says he’s proposing the lowest tax rate in the city since 1972, but while the rate may be going down, many Nashvillians will actually pay more due to rising property values after this year’s reappraisal. The median home in Davidson County is now worth 45 percent more than it was in 2024.
