Lincoln, NE — The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office is alerting residents about a new scam involving AI-generated voice messages claiming missed federal jury duty.
Chief Deputy Ben Houchin said the office received over 800 calls from concerned citizens on Friday.
“They had received a voice message that they had missed federal jury duty, and the person was identified as a lieutenant from the Lancaster County Sheriff’s office,” Houchin said.
