Unattended candle sparks $80K fire in Pawaa retirement home

HONOLULU (Island News) – The cause of a building fire in the Pawaa area was classified as accidental, according to the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD).

On Tuesday, June 3, HFD investigators reported that the cause of the building fire was due to an unattended wax candle that was on a mattress. It had ignited and caught onto combustible materials and originated in a bedroom.
