Frontierland Expansion at Magic Kingdom to Bring “Cars”-Inspired National Park to Life

A major expansion is coming to Frontierland at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. The new Piston Peak National Park, inspired by the “Cars” universe, is touted as the largest addition in the park’s history, furthering the storytelling tradition that connects Liberty Square and Frontierland.

Drawing inspiration from the American frontier and the Rocky Mountains, Piston Peak promises an immersive wilderness experience. Imagine towering trees, snow-capped mountains, cascading waterfalls, rushing rivers, and impressive geysers, all within the vibrant world of “Cars.” Visitors can explore a visitor lodge, Ranger HQ, and various trails throughout the “wheelderness.”

The park’s design will incorporate “Parkitecture,” a style that emphasizes harmonious integration of buildings with the natural landscape. To facilitate the construction of Piston Peak, the Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Liberty Square Riverboat will be temporarily closed starting July 7.
