TVA volunteers remove over 46,000 pounds of trash from Tennessee River during annual cleanup event

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Nearly 200 volunteers helped remove 46,605 pounds of trash from the shores of Tennessee lakes last week, as part of a cleanup effort by Keep the Tennessee River Beautiful.

The nonprofit concluded its 7th annual Tennessee River Grand Slam series in May, an initiative to host one cleanup in each of the four states touched by the main stem of the Tennessee River. Between March 21 and May 10, 198 volunteers with the Tennessee Valley Authority collected trash at Douglas, Norris, Pickwick and Kentucky Lakes.
