CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Horizons Meals on Wheels transport hundreds of meals across Linn and Johnson counties every weekday, delivering food to people who struggle to leave their home. While organizers say an “army” is needed to keep those wheels rolling, funding uncertainty at the federal level makes for an added stressor.
The organization is funded, in part, by the Older Americans Act, which provides roughly $800,000 to the group’s annual budget. That program is at risk of seeing cuts from the Department of Health and Human Services.
“That funding is critical for this program to continue,” Jim Miller, director of Development for Meals on Wheels, said. “Federal funding is in great flux right now and we’re very concerned and watching it closely.”…
