Columbia, S.C. (WACH) — What started as a routine call for vandalism turned into a life-changing and lifelong bond between three young boys, the community, and Investigator Lawrence Brewer of the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
In November 2024, Investigator Brewer, then a corporal, received a call about a vacant home that had been burglarized. He said the call seemed like any other call, but when he arrived at the scene and began looking through the home with the property owner something very unusual happened. Three young boys between the ages of 8 – 14-years-old, walked right into Brewer as he was taking the report. The boys soon confessed, but what Brewer and the property owner found out while talking with them was something they couldn’t ignore. All three of their fathers had died and at least one was killed at the hands of gun violence.
“I asked them what would your parents think when they finally confessed,” said Brewer. “When they said all three of their fathers were deceased my heart just melted.”…
