Mathews County Sheriff’s Office warns residents about counterfeit bills

MATHEWS COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — The Mathews County Sheriff’s Office is warning citizens and businesses of bills that may be counterfeit.

Police have received reports of counterfeit money being passed around. They are advising residents to be vigilant with checking bills, especially if hosting yard and garage sales or engaging in sales over Facebook Marketplace.

Police provided an example of a counterfeit $100 bill that reads “FOR MOTION PICTURE PURPOSES” instead of “THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.”…
