Temperature in shade versus sun, urban impact, plus clothing colors matter

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The sun makes a big difference in the temperature, if you have a thermometer in the sun versus shade. Plus, surfaces make a difference, especially if you are in a city versus the countryside. Also, the air can feel much hotter depending on the color you wear. I’ll explain using 3D graphics on our Weather Authority deck in this week’s Weather Wisdom Wednesday, watch the video below:

If you have a thermometer at home, the temperature recording may be different than our official weather observation stations. This is because of a few reasons. Our official recording comes from a Stevenson’s box which is always shaded and painted white to reduce heat absorption. Plus, this box is placed 4 feet above the ground and in an open field so there is no effect from the surface…..
