Storm Tracker Forecast: South winds bring a modest dip in temperatures Thursday

It’s a good idea to dress in light clothing, grab your sunglasses and pack some water as you get ready to head out the door Thursday. A strong ridge of high pressure is parked well off the coast in the Pacific, and that will continue to drive sunny to mostly sunny skies, mostly dry conditions, and above average temperatures across our region. A weak area of low pressure directly off the coast will bring the return of south winds and a modest dip in temperatures to northern California today. Skies have been clear overnight, and we’ll stay sunny across the valley and foothills today. Mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies are expected to arrive into this afternoon in our higher elevations. There will also be a chance for pop up showers and thunderstorms in our higher elevations this afternoon into this evening. Temperatures are starting out in the 60’s to low 70’s in the valley, 50’s to mid 60’s in the foothills, and 40’s in most mountain zones this morning. Winds are projected to be out of the southeast to 10mph, and gusts up to 20mph will be possible today. The south winds will drive the welcome cooling influence from the Delta Breeze, and that will leave us with a modest dip in high temperatures this afternoon. We’re projected to climb into the 91 to 98 degree range in the valley, 70’s to mid 80’s in the foothills and Sierra, and 80’s to low 90’s in the Northern Mountains this afternoon.

Sunny skies, similar low temperatures and south winds, and a hotter afternoon is on the way for your Friday. We’ll start out in the low to mid 60’s in the valley, 50’s to mid 60’s in the foothills, and 40’s to low 50’s in our mountain zones Friday morning. South winds to 10mph are expected. High temperatures are projected to climb into the mid 90’s to lower triple digits in the valley, and upper 70’s to lower 90’s in most foothill and mountain areas Friday afternoon.

Temperatures will then start out a few degrees warmer, and end up a few degrees hotter under sunny to mostly sunny skies Saturday. Temperatures will dip into the mid 60’s to lower 70’s in the valley, 60’s in most foothill areas, and 40’s to mid 50’s in our mountain zones both mornings this weekend. High temperatures will range from 98 to 105 degrees in the valley, 80’s to mid 90’s in the foothills and Sierra, and upper 80’s to upper 90’s in the Northern Mountains in the afternoons this weekend. The threat of scattered showers and thunderstorms will return to our higher elevations on Sunday and last into early next week. The best chance for activity will be in areas just south of the Oregon border…
