Thousands affected by downtown Salt Lake City power outage

UPDATE: As of 10:50 a.m., Rocky Mountain Power’s outage map showed power had been restored in the downtown area of Salt Lake City.

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Downtown Salt Lake City lost power early Thursday morning, affecting nearly 3,000 Rocky Mountain Power customers.

According to the Rocky Mountain Power outage map, the first report of the power outage came just after 9 a.m. on Thursday, June 5. Roughly 2,850 customers in the heart of downtown Salt Lake City were affected.

David Eskelsen, a spokesperson for Rocky Mountain Power, said crews are currently investigating the cause, according to Rocky Mountain Power, and estimate power will be restored by 12:30 p.m.

When it comes to restoring power, crews will use outage reports from customers to help pinpoint the cause of the outage, according to the Rocky Mountain Power website.
