North Alabama Weather Watch: Strong Storms and Gusty Winds Possible Friday After 2 p.m.

Birmingham, Alabama – Northern Alabama residents should prepare for potentially severe thunderstorms Friday afternoon and evening, with damaging winds and large hail posing the biggest threats.

According to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, areas north of I-20—including Hamilton, Jasper, and Gadsden—face a Level 2 (slight) risk for severe storms starting late Friday. Wind gusts could reach 60 mph, and hail may grow to quarter size in isolated cells.

Most of Central Alabama, including Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Montgomery, and Auburn, falls under a Level 1 (marginal) risk. Storms in these zones may still be strong, but the chances of widespread severe impacts are lower.
