Twelve Baskets Food Pantry opens renovated store in Portage amid rising food insecurity

PORTAGE, Mich. — Twelve Baskets Food Pantry in Portage is getting ready to open their newly renovated community store amid increasing food insecurity in the community.

The store, providing “garage sale priced” new and used essentials, will open Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. All proceeds from the store will go towards the bank’s efforts to lessen hunger.

From clothing, kitchen appliances, toys, and movies, new items will be priced 75% or more off retail price, and many items will be available for as little as $1.

“We’ve always said, ‘if people can get their food, get some food free and their shampoo reduced and stuff like that, they can save their money for rent and medicine and stuff,'” Executive Director Kathleen Fett said. “There is a need, but, there’s also a need to support our growth and our renovation, so, all of the prices will be really low.”…
